The story begins in the heavens of Mount Olympus, where Zeus, the King of the Gods, watches over the mortals with a mix of pride and temper. When King Acrisius of Argos casts his daughter Danae and her infant son Perseus into the sea to die, an enraged Zeus orders the destruction of Argos. He has Poseidon release the Kraken, a prehistoric sea monster, to pull the city into the depths. Meanwhile, the gods ensure Danae and Perseus drift safely to the shores of Seriphos.

The journey to the Underworld is treacherous. Perseus and his band of soldiers reach the Isle of the Dead and enter Medusa’s lair. The Gorgon is a terrifying creature with a serpent's tail and hair of living snakes. One by one, Perseus’s men are turned to stone. Using his polished shield to see her reflection without looking directly at her, Perseus manages to decapitate Medusa and secure her head in a magical bag.
