The story follows (Wings Hauser), a disgraced, alcoholic former LAPD officer who has relocated to New York City to work as a freelance "problem solver". He is drawn back to Los Angeles after the daughter of his old friend and mentor, Sam Goodwin, is murdered by a serial killer known as "X," who leaves the letter carved into his victims' foreheads.

While it failed to reach the same heights as Hauser’s other 1982 cult classic Vice Squad , "Deadly Force" remains a notable entry in 1980s exploitation cinema. It was largely out of print for decades until a Blu-ray release by brought it back into the spotlight for genre collectors.
