The goblin is said to have superhuman strength, supposedly breaking through walls to snatch people and hang them high in the temple's rafters. Conan notices a massive, high-ceilinged room with a small hole in the wall, which the monks claim was the site of a "goblin murder" two years prior.

The murderer is revealed to be Shunen , the youngest disciple. He was actually the brother of the monk who "disappeared" two years ago. He discovered that the head priest, Tenei, had murdered his brother using this exact same water trick and set out to exact revenge by killing Tenei in the same "impossible" way.
