The archive bloomed open, revealing thousands of photos. He clicked the first one. It was him, or someone who looked exactly like him, standing in front of the Eiffel Tower. He had never been to France. In the next photo, he was graduating from a university he’d never attended, holding a degree in architecture instead of the accounting desk job he currently held.

"Elias?" a voice called out—the voice of the woman from the photo. "Are you in there? The update is ready."

As he scrolled, the photos became more recent. There was a photo of him from this morning , sitting in a cafe he’d never visited, laughing with a woman he didn't recognize but whose smile felt like a forgotten melody. File: Find.Yourself.zip ...

The file sat on the desktop, a simple icon labeled Find.Yourself.zip . It hadn’t been there when Elias locked his computer an hour ago, and the timestamp claimed it was created in 1994—three years before he was born.

He clicked it. A single text file appeared: instructions.txt . The archive bloomed open, revealing thousands of photos

He didn't open the door. Instead, he grabbed the mouse and right-clicked the zip file. Select All. Delete.

The last file wasn't a photo. It was a video titled Run.mp4 . He had never been to France

He played it. The camera was shaky, held by the version of himself in the photos. "If you're watching this," the Other Elias whispered, glancing over his shoulder at a door that looked exactly like the one behind the real Elias, "it means the zip file successfully jumped. They’re deleting the timelines, Elias. They're cleaning up the 'errors.' You weren't supposed to exist, and neither was I." A heavy knock sounded at Elias’s real-world office door.
