The story follows (Paul Rudd), a successful but socially awkward real estate agent who recently proposed to his girlfriend, Zooey (Rashida Jones). Peter soon realizes he lacks a close male friend to serve as his best man. This leads him on a series of uncomfortable "man-dates" until he meets the carefree Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) at an open house.
