The hills became prominent during the French occupation of Szczecin (1806–1813). In 1808 , French troops stationed in the area created an artificial mound, now known as Napoleon's Hill ( Wzgórze Napoleona ), to honor Emperor Napoleon I's 39th birthday.
After Prussia regained control in 1814, the site was renamed German Hill ( Deutscher Berg ). The bust of Napoleon was replaced by a cast-iron column topped with an Iron Cross , a symbol of the newly established Prussian military decoration for those who fought against the French. WzgГіrza koronne
